An Airbnb title holds 50 characters, phones show about 32, and the best ones name one feature in sentence case without city, beds, or emoji.

An Airbnb title holds 50 characters including spaces. On a phone, guests see roughly the first 32 characters before the title is cut. Put the one feature that sells your place inside those first 32 characters. Write it in sentence case and leave out the city, the bed count, the word "new", and emoji.

## How long can an Airbnb title be?

The limit is 50 characters. Airbnb tells you to "try to use fewer than 50". Longer titles are shortened in search results on small screens ([Airbnb title guidelines](https://www.airbnb.com/resources/hosting-homes/a/guidelines-for-writing-your-listing-title-533), updated 2 February 2026). The cap also applies through the API. Property management systems saw Airbnb enforce the 50-character limit from 5 July 2022.

Put the main selling point within the first 32 characters as a practical writing target. Preview the result on a phone: the visible length varies, so the opening words must work on their own.

## What does Airbnb say a title should contain?

Airbnb's guidelines ask for one or two features that make the place different, written in plain words. The style rules from the same page are short.

- Capitalize only the first letter of the first word. Airbnb says lowercase "tends to be easier to read".
- Skip emoji and symbols. Airbnb calls them "confusing or misleading".
- Do not repeat punctuation. `!!!` and `***` fail the style check. Use a comma or a single slash instead.
- Describe, do not shout. All caps reads as noise and breaks the capitalization rule.

Airbnb's own examples show the pattern. `Hilltop hideaway for wine lovers`. `Ski/golf chalet with fenced yard`. `Modern loft overlooking downtown`. Each one names a feature first and stays inside the mobile budget.

## What should a title not repeat?

The search result card already shows your city, your bed count, and a "New" tag when the listing is new. Airbnb says it is "generally unnecessary" to repeat that information in the title. Every repeated word takes characters away from a feature.

1. Do not write the city or town. The card shows the location under the photo.
2. Do not write the number of beds or bedrooms. The card shows beds.
3. Do not write "new". Airbnb labels new listings on its own.
4. Do not repeat a symbol to draw the eye. Repeated symbols break the style rule and add nothing a guest can search for.

Airbnb's separate advice page on standing out repeats the same style rules. It adds that nearly 150 amenity options exist and that a complete list improves filter visibility. Put the searchable facts in the amenities list, not in the title.

## Can emoji get my listing removed?

No. Emoji break Airbnb's style guidance, not its Content Policy. The Content Policy bans advertising for a separate business, links, logos, and other people's private data ([Airbnb Help Center article 546](https://www.airbnb.com/help/article/546/airbnbs-content-policy)). A title with emoji looks unprofessional and wastes characters, but Airbnb does not remove listings for it. Choose a clear selling point instead of decorative symbols.

## Does the title affect search ranking?

Airbnb publishes no ranking weight for titles. Its explanation of search names three factors, price, quality, and popularity. Quality covers "a listing's photos, guest reviews, and other characteristics". Popularity counts wish list saves and page visits ([How search works on Airbnb](https://www.airbnb.com/resources/hosting-homes/a/how-search-works-on-airbnb-460)). The title is not named anywhere in that article.

The title works on the click, not on the rank. A clearer title earns more page visits from the same impressions. Page visits feed popularity. That is the only path from a title to a ranking effect that Airbnb's own text supports.

Use words that help the right guest recognize the property: a private pool, step-free access, or a location near the place they are visiting. Avoid stuffing the title with search terms.

## Six titles, before and after

Character counts include spaces. Use the same feature-first approach in the language of your listing.

| Before | Chars | After | Chars | Rule it fixes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| `LUXURY PENTHOUSE WITH ROOFTOP POOL` | 34 | `Penthouse with rooftop pool and city views` | 42 | Sentence case, no all caps |
| `***Ski & golf chalet***` | 23 | `Ski/golf chalet with fenced yard` | 32 | No repeated symbols |
| `Charming apartment in Lisbon, Lisbon center` | 43 | `Tiled balcony flat above the Alfama stairs` | 42 | Do not repeat the city |
| `3 bedroom 2 bathroom house sleeps 6` | 35 | `Garden house with a heated pool and games room` | 46 | Do not repeat the bed count |
| `New listing! Modern studio near the station` | 43 | `Quiet studio a 4-minute walk from the station` | 45 | Do not write "new" |
| `Beautiful and spacious family home with private hot tub` | 55 | `Private hot tub cabin on the lake shore` | 39 | Under 50 characters, feature inside the first 32 |

> **Our view.** One rule matters more than the others. Put the feature in the first 32 characters. In the listings we score, the most common mistake is the city name in the first 15 characters. The card already shows the city, so those characters buy nothing.

## How do I write a title that fits?

1. Write down the one thing a guest would tell a friend about your place. A view, a pool, a walk to the beach, a quiet garden.
2. Put that feature in the first three or four words.
3. Add one location detail only if the card does not show it, such as a landmark or a beach name.
4. Count the characters. Cut adjectives first. "Beautiful", "cozy", and "amazing" carry no information.
5. Read the first 32 characters alone. If the feature is not there, move it forward.

To change the title, select the listing under `Listings`, open `Listing editor`, edit the title field, then save. Airbnb also links to the editor from the bottom of its title guidelines page.

## Questions hosts ask

### Does a longer title rank better?

No. Airbnb names price, quality, and popularity as ranking inputs and does not name the title. A title over 50 characters is cut, and a title over about 32 characters is cut on phones.

### Can I use a slash or an ampersand?

Yes. Airbnb's own example is `Ski/golf chalet with fenced yard`. Use a single slash or comma. Do not repeat any symbol.

### Should I put the neighborhood in the title?

Only when the neighborhood is the feature and the result card does not show it. "Above the Alfama stairs" tells a guest something. "In Lisbon" repeats the card.

### Will Airbnb write my title for me?

Smart Setup suggests titles from the address and the amenities you tag. Check the suggestion against Airbnb's style rules before you accept it. The description of this feature comes from 2026 release coverage, not from an Airbnb page.
